Advanced Airfoils Powers the World—and New Manufacturing Careers
August 7, 2020 7:32 pmInside a gleaming, 100,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Gibsonton, Florida, a furnace burns as hot as 2800 degrees Fahrenheit. Forged within that fire is a key part of a gas turbine—one that can only be manufactured in a few places around the world. Advanced Airfoils Components is one of those places.
Launched as a joint venture between Siemens and Chromalloy, Advanced Airfoil Components exclusively supplies Siemens castings components for gas turbines that generate power around the globe. But inside the walls of their Hillsborough County facility, visitors will find another type of energy—the kind that comes from people who love what they do every day.
Since opening their doors in 2018, Advanced Airfoil Components has grown to team of more than 170 employees. Positions range from product engineers to maintenance technicians to non-destructive testing specialists. Whatever the job title, the company strives to fill every role with ambitious individuals looking for a long-term career path filled with great opportunities.
“One of the things that drew me to this company was that I was able to get certified in four non-destructive testing methods,” said John Allyn, Non-Destructive Testing Technician. “In most companies, you don’t have that opportunity.”
With plans to ramp up to more than 300 employees by 2023, Advanced Airfoil Components will soon be bringing many more great opportunities to Hillsborough County residents, as well as delivering precious power to more places around the world.
“People in some of the most remote areas of the world have power because of the parts we make on this floor. That’s one of the things that makes me proud to work here.”
