Guide to COVID-19 resources and response in Hillsborough County

Bausch + Lomb’s Ambitious Vision for Company Culture

As companies around the world pivoted production lines and work practices to adjust to coronavirus, global eye health leader Bausch + Lomb also focused on another critical priority at the same time: maintaining a strong company culture.

“Bausch + Lomb is a great place to build a rewarding career. COVID-19 has put a lot on pause, but we’re still making things happen,” said Dora Arroyo, Manager of Human Resources.

That means going virtual for not just meetings, but for yoga classes, food demos, and lunch and learns—all  wellness benefits that the almost 170-year-old company offers employees. However, the culture revolves around more than cool perks. At the heart of their commitment to team members is a strong emphasis on career development.

“Each department has a solid career path and clear levels of progression. Employees can set goals and advance into new positions. In 2018, we promoted over 40 employees from within,” Arroyo said.

One of those employees was Ken Patten, Director of Manufacturing.  Ken started his career in 1995 as a Microbiology Technician.  After earning several certifications, he was able to progress his career to quality assurance, microbiology team leader, sterile filling manager and more. Ken believes that to succeed you have to learn the job you want to earn by putting in the hard work, having an overall commitment to the company as well as passion for the business.

With its U.S. headquarters in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Bausch + Lomb operates in approximately 100 countries across the world, which includes their two locations in Hillsborough County — Tampa and Clearwater. Their production facility in Tampa operates 24/7 which includes production technicians, quality assurance specialists, engineers, warehouse workers, chemists, microbiologists and administrative staff. They’re continuing to grow, with plans to hire production technicians, operators and validation quality.

Their team members aren’t all that’s advancing. As a leading industry innovator, Bausch + Lomb collaborates  with the eye care community to continuously develop and deliver modernized eye health options – including contact lenses, eye drops, prescription pharmaceuticals and more – that meet the evolving needs of eye care professionals and their patients.  As part of this progress, the company also analyzes and enhances its manufacturing processes as needed in an effort to find ways to run leaner, cleaner and remove additional unnecessary waste from production
